January19
OK so I’m awake… It’s 7:20 here in Vegas and I’m about to get up and get dressed. Aside from the anxiety, I had a hard time sleeping last night because I’m pretty sure there’s a yappy dog in the room next to me. Is that even allowed? If it happens again tonight I’m going to complain like a mother.
Today is rehearsal. I met a handful of the people I’ll be working with last night over drinks. More on these guys to come…
I just hope I can get through today without crashing. And I just realized I have to find someone to tie my tie. I always have Korey do it and he’s not here!
I miss him already.
Off to work!

I feel like I’m coming down with something major… I really hope it’s not the flu.

You know the rest.
My thanks to all those who attended my New Years Eve bash at the studio. I was really thankful that I got to countdown to 2009 with some really great people. Singing karaoke till our vocal chords bled, drinking till our livers turned inside out, eating till our abs disappeard and and finding other fun ways to destroy bodies! It was honestly the highlight of 2008. That’s not saying much though since 2008 pretty much sucked. It definitely had some moments… like our road trip, shooting some music videos, painting my office… :/ On the whole, I could have done without this year. So 2009 should be the year that stuff finally happens for me! I’ve already enrolled in classes so I can finish school and I’m feeling very optimistic about my recent epiphany and how it will affect my career (see post below).
I predict that 2009 will be the most prosperous year of my life so far.
Cheers! *tink*

Man! What a day I had yesterday!
Technically, it was a 15-hour work day. But honestly, it was definitely the most fun I’ve had working in a while.
I was contracted by a Special Events company to be a stage manager for this event downtown. I blindly signed up for it, repeating the mantra “if it pays, I’ll do it.” I had no idea I’d have that much fun and be this tired afterward. The event was a benefit for the Ron Stone foundation, but mostly it was a gathering of celebrities (mostly news anchors) that had their roots in Houston. Clint Black also made an appearance. I got to see first hand what goes in to an event like this. The affair seemed light and quick to the guests, but I’m sure few of them really knew how much actual set-up was involved. I was part of the team that oversaw the different crews; lighting, sound, video, etc. Making sure everyone knew what they were supposed to do. When the show started, I managed one side of the stage, ushering the VIP guests, including Mr. Black, to the stage.

I gotta say, I felt very important! I got to meet the Governor of Texas, a couple former Governors, and a slew of news anchors I grew up watching. It was an honor to meet these people face-to-face. But to be honest, I didn’t really recognize a lot of them until they made their way to the stage and I could see them on the big screen and hear their voice through the PA. Then it would click — “OH! I just escorted the channel 11 weather man on to the stage. Duh” Being surround by all these icons, and the whole dedication to the late Ron Stone made me a little nostaligic and proud to be from this great City. I never even thought I’d say that (especially after surviving the 8 year long I-10 rennovation. But I really am proud to be from a city full of great people like the ones I met last night.

The day was a blast, and totally exhausting, and hopefully the start of something good for me.
